Chelsea have issued an injury update before their match against Tottenham this Thursday. With two new players sidelined, the Blues now have 14 senior stars out with injury.

Chelsea Injury Crisis Worsens Ahead of London Derby

Desperate for a Win

Chelsea ended April with only two victories in six games as their dreams of salvaging the season ended. The Blues crashed out of the FA Cup after a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City before slipping back to ninth in the Premier League.

The few remaining fixtures of the season could be decisive for Mauricio Pochettino’s future as his debut season at Stamford Bridge comes to an end. Chelsea hope to get back to winning ways against Tottenham and claim their first victory since April 15.

Latest Update From Cobham

Chelsea added Axel Disasi and Thiago Silva to their official injury list on Wednesday, with both players now being under medical assessment. The club have also confirmed Levi Colwill and Christopher Nkunku’s return to full training. However, Pochettino didn’t offer an update on their availability for the Tottenham match.

Asked about his side’s injury crisis, Pochettino told reporters (via the Independent): “We all feel the responsibility and all of us can do better because there are too many circumstances that have happened and it is difficult to explain with one sentence.

“We are working to try and improve, we have an amazing medical staff and coaching staff, who all have experience managing clubs and we need to put all the information on the table, at the end of the season and be better next season.”

The Injury Crisis Hits a New Low

With Disasi and Silva being sidelined, Pochettino’s side now have 14 players unavailable with injury. According to X account CFC Daily, this is a “new record” for Chelsea’s highest number of injured players reported before a game since the start of the season.

The closest instances were last weekend’s match against Aston Villa and the away fixture against Sheffield United on April 7, with the Blues having 12 players sidelined on both occasions.

Despite the recent injury blows, however, Chelsea might soon receive good news regarding some of their longer-term absentees. Reece James, Raheem Sterling, Lesley Ugochukwu and Robert Sanchez have all restarted partial training and could return before the end of the season.
