Blake Corum Excited To Bond & Build Relationship With Kyren Willams

The 2024 NFL Draft is in the books and the Los Angeles Rams did well to address some of the pressing needs on the roster.

The Rams spent their first two picks on the defensive line, taking Jared Verse at No. 19 in the first round and later trading up to No. 39 in the second round to take Braden Fiske. Verse and Fiske were teammates at Florida State where they wreaked havoc up front and Los Angeles will be hoping they can continue their magic for them going forward.

Meanwhile, the Rams’ third-round pick at No. 83 was spent on Michigan running back Blake Corum, who was one of the best and most productive players at his position. Corum helped the Wolverines to the CFP Championship earlier this year and will now be asked to help Los Angeles get back to the postseason.

Corum is set to back up Kyren Williams and is looking forward to spending time with him and establishing some rapport with him, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“He’s a great running back,” Corum said. “He was the second-leading rusher in the NFL, so I know he’s going to help me get better. I’m going to push him to be the best version of himself, and it’s going to be a great tandem, great duo. I’m excited to actually get down there and create a bond and a relationship with Kyren. He’s a heck of a back.”

Aside from building a relationship with Williams, Corum’s main goal in the league is to win a Super Bowl:

“I believe that’s the goal because that puts the team first, and that’s the type of guy I am,” Corum said.

Head coach Sean McVay admitted that the Rams wanted to draft Corum because of his similar running style to Williams, signaling that the team will go back to being a physical, run-heavy team that mauls opponents up front. Between drafting Corum and investing in the interior of the offensive line, McVay’s made the switch from his famed pass game to a more smashmouth approach.

Williams should still see the majority of snaps in the backfield, but Corum makes for an excellent counterpart who can keep defenses on their toes.

Rams tried to trade up with Brock Bowers in mind

Before Day 1 of the draft, Los Angeles was reportedly working the phones to move up in the first round and they were apparently had Georgia tight end Brock Bowers in mind.
